The Packers and Alexander spent much of the offseason evaluating their options, as a potential trade and restructured contract were on the table before the release.
It was reported in May that Green Bay offered a restructured contract to Alexander, who had two years left on a four-year, $84-million extension he signed in 2022.
The two-time Pro Bowl cornerback was slated to earn a base salary of $16.15 million in 2025. However, the final two years of his contract contained no guaranteed money.
Alexander, 28, has battled injuries in recent years. He played seven games or less in three of his last four seasons.
"He has been a great player for us," Packers president Mark Murphy said Monday, according to Dave Schroeder of WBAY-TV. "Obviously, elite talent. Unfortunately, just injured a lot.”
When healthy, Alexander was a key part of the Packers' defense. His best season came in 2022 when he recorded a career-high five interceptions across 16 starts.
