Report: Dolphins, Steelers discuss trade for Jonnu Smith 4a6r5i

The Miami Dolphins have had trade discussions with the Pittsburgh Steelers about Pro Bowl tight end Jonnu Smith, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter. 493d72

Talks began after Smith expressed a desire to rework his contract, which is slated to pay him $4.8 million this season, Schefter adds. The tight end would reportedly prefer to stay in Miami.

The 29-year-old set the Dolphins franchise record for receptions (88), receiving yards (884), and touchdowns (eight) for a tight end.

If he's traded to Pittsburgh, he'd reunite with Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, who was the tight ends coach when the player first broke into the league in 2017 with the Tennessee Titans. He was also offensive coordinator with the Titans from 2019-20. The two also teamed up in 2023 with the Atlanta Falcons while Arthur Smith was head coach.

The Steelers' tight end depth chart is led by Pat Freiermuth, who caught 65 es for 653 yards and seven scores last season. Freiermuth is in the midst of a four-year, $48.4-million deal.
